I had a friend who not l long ago asked for my help with his mother she's 80 years old and has suffered 2 major strokes. In my State of Georgia, like many more your doctor has not only a moral but legal obligation to report you to the DMV if you are both mentally and physically impaired they will then take both your drivers license but your insurance to protect not just from others but yourself.I have also discovered, that a person like she and myself fall under the Care category laws we don't get well go to theraphy and just be allowed to go home under our own recogniance we have to be along with our home be certified to live alone on your own. Once again here the court says even your spouse is liable for your actions and decisions I found this out the hard way when I had an accident got way too cold and left the scene of an accident even though I stoped and gave my informationI was still charged because I am considered impaired I shared all this with my friend's mother but even after he put her car up on blocks he forgot it was a front wheel drive. He heard a loud bang and down the street went Maggie, lucky for her no one was hurt but the police did take the car and charged her with driving while impaired. I'm sharing this today with many of you because it may be a mother, father or friend when dealing with the elderly, we must be prepared for Murphy's law to take it's course because if we are allowed to get in trouble we will. and sometimes tough love is the only thing to do and the law will blame you, I called this article what I did because just like a sink drains we older folks get hit with too much information, we get lost in the vortex because we can't keep up This is just another of my daily rants I decided to share with my Nerwesvine friends in hope it may help someone else.
