First of all my article is being written in response to the June issue of The AARP Bulletin entitled Small Town Medicine LIfe and Death in Scobbey Montana Lonsesome Do, An Article written by Chris WoolsSton about Mr. Dallas Gaines of Scobbey Montana, the article is very well written, but in my opinion is a slap in the face to every really good Rural doctor and clinic in America. And if you might think, I am taking this article a little too personal I would like to say right off Damn straight this article straight out makes me angry beyond words which is no small feat for a recovering stroke victim who hasn't shut up since regaining his speech in theraphy 7 months ago.
Just like Mr. Gaines I woke up with all the classic symthoms of a stroke victim. The big difference though, was when I arrived at the hospital My Doctor, Dr. Susan Leigh Jones Was standing right there to rush me into a Ct Scan machine, at which time she diagnosed me as having suffered not one but two massive strokes, Her first reaction was to contact my neurologist and fight tooth and nail, to get me to a hospital and save my life, I have yet to have any other doctor learn of my stroke or see my X-rays not tell me that I should not be dead and express their amazement that I am not dead from that stroke
Let me slow down here just long enough to both thank and applaud Dr. Sawdey for helping mr. Gaines not be one of those 80% that do not survive a stroke. I aso feel obligated to mention that Dr. Susan Jones isn't the only doctor in Putnam Country Georgia, just the very best one. We have been blessed with her practice for 21 years and she has been board certified for 24years, and spent several years in residence before starting her own practice. We call her little Doc. around theses parts because she's barely 5 foot tall and might weigh 110 with a brick in her slacks. but when it comes to heart and spirit she is a mother tiger when it comes to her patients, which I am proud to be one of.
Finally those of us who live in rural America. We do realize there is a certain amount of risk involved in the quality of life we live out in the country, We chose to take that risk to enjoy the benefits we receive but please don't paint too broad a picture even in Big Sky country. Because we do survive and in fact love our doctors and treatment, in hospitals across America like PG H.
Is it an answer all cure alternative? no but neither are we left to the tender mercies of city doctors. To Mister Gaines I"m glad you made it ok partner, I envy you living in Montana. My very best to you and yours.
